Douglas B. Freels, M.D.specializes in joint replacement surgery, arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine, and general orthopaedic surgery. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
Dr. Freels specializes in primary and revision joint replacement surgery of the hip, knee, and shoulder. He has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery having attended numerous advanced training courses of this newer and continuously evolving techniques which include unicompartmental knee replacement, hip resurfacing, and minimally invasive hip and knee replacement surgery. He has had significant experience in failed and painful joint replacement patients and treatment of infected total joints. In addition to total joint patients, Dr. Freels also sees and treats patients for arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee, hip, and ankle. He sees and treats both sports related injuries and those commonly seen in a general orthopaedic practice.
He has received advanced training in joint replacement surgery having completed a fellowship in adult reconstruction and joint replacement surgery working with nationally and internationally known surgeons from the Florida Orthopaedic Institute and Tampa General Hospital in Tampa Florida. Dr. Freels graduated from the University of the South in Sewanee Tenneessee, and he completed his MD degree at East Tennessee State University College of Medicine. He finished his residency training at both the Tampa Orthopaedic Residency program at Tampa General Hospital and Wake Forest University / Bowman Gray College of Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
